Birthday: May 6th, 1990,
Born: Sydney, Australia,
Famous for: Model, Selfie Model,
Renee Somerfield has appeared in magazines Maxim and Cosmopolitan. She has over 1 million followers on Instagram.
The bio page on her website states “in recent years Renee has worked with some big names including General Pants, Honey Birdette and Protein World and she has also starred in Australian television commercials for big brands such as Lipton Ice Tea and Smiths Chips”
In 2014 she was chosen by PETA to shoot in their International poster campaign, “Save the Earth, Go Vegan”.
In 2015 she appeared in the movie San Andreas playing a Flight Attendant.
In May 2015 she appeared in posters on the London Underground for Protein World. This was criticised by feminists who claimed it’s slogan “Are you beach body ready” next to her slim body hinted that only the slim should be seen on the beach. Dozens of female bikini-clad protesters gathered in Hyde Park in Central London to complain about the ads.
“I agree that ALL bodies are ‘beach body ready’. Skinny, curvy, muscular, petite, tall, short, young and old. Confidence is beautiful no matter what size you are…. Your reflection doesn’t define your worth.”
“I am a real person behind the image. I work very hard and live a healthy and active lifestyle which is why Protein World chose me for their campaign. I couldn’t work every day as a full time model by starving myself, dieting or not looking after my body. Nourish your body, be kind to it and it will love you right back, no matter your size,” she says.
Would you say you’ve always been naturally skinny, or is it a product of diet & exercise?
I have definitely always been skinny. My physique is naturally very petite and I am quite tall (5’10). Growing up, this felt very awkward but I have grown to love and embrace my body! I work hard to keep my body looking healthy and fit, which means eating 6+ times a day and working out with resistance and weights to make sure I maintain lean muscle… I don’t like looking too skinny!
A lot of people ask me about my social media presence. When it comes to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter… I believe it has totally reshaped the industry I work in and life as a whole. The experience of being able to connect with people all over the world at the click
of a mouse, or touch of a screen, is crazy. Our generation is so lucky. The world has become such a small place with so much opportunity at everyone’s fingertips. I love Instagram. I love creating imagery and sharing it with the world.
